Hitchin Street Angels
Hitchin Street Angels was launched in April 2011 following the vision of a group of Christians in Hitchin. They believe in living out their faith in a practical and life changing way. Their initiative and this project is fully endorsed and fully supported by Churches together in Hitchin.
Their aims are similar to existing Street Angel and Street Pastor schemes, of which
Bedford and Watford are good examples. Their common aim is to provide unconditional,
non-
All of them have teams of volunteers from local churches and have seen success in reducing violence, antisocial behaviour and fear of crime in their communities.
In the first six months of Street Angels operating in Hitchin, the police have identified a 40% reduction in Anti Social Behaviour in Hitchin Town Centre on a Saturday night.
As an organisation, they aim to provide a team of volunteer Christians to be available to anyone using the nightclubs, pubs and restaurants in Hitchin Town Centre on a Saturday night.
Hitchin Street Angels runs on (subject to volunteers being available) Saturday evening
from 10.00pm – 2.00am throughout the year. They also support town events such as
Rhythms of the World. They work very much in partnership with the Hertfordshire Police,
N.H.D.C, Hitchin Town Centre Initiative, Street Rangers, Pub Watch and other support
groups and agencies.
